This painting is a study done in preparation for my larger work:’Hopetoun Sunset’.

The striking contrast between the warm, glowing tones of the sunset and the cooler purple backdrop of the sky creates a dynamic visual tension. The visible texture of the paint enhances the illusion of movement and light, making the clouds appear both ethereal and powerfully present.

At the very bottom of the composition, a serene strip of muted blue water stretches across the width of the canvas, reflecting the tranquil and unperturbed nature of the scene. Just above this water, a gentle silhouette of distant mountains or coastal hills emerges, rendered in soft, grayish-brown tones. These understated forms add a crucial sense of scale and distance.

The work is painted on all four sides of the canvas stretcher making a frame unnecessary.
