Some friends that lived in Augusta told us about this lovely place called cosy corner, and on the day we were there we had the entire beach to ourselves.

Cosy corner is near Augusta in the South West of Western Australia. It’s something of a walk down a steep hill to get to the beach, but once they’re what a delight.

There are afew rocky outcrop islands just off the coast, and a tall narrow beach cave at one end of the beach.

This is an oil on stretched canvas and the first of two paintings which go side by side, or can be separated.

The thing I loved about creating this painting was the transition from the foreground foam with the suspended sand giving the foam a dirty yellow ochre tint.

Then the gradual transition back from the surf into the clearwater glowing a viridian green.

And then beyond that into the deep water reflecting the sky dark blue.

And finally the Rocky outcrops with their visceral texture and patches of red-green coastal grass growing on them.

It was quite a windy day and you can see the white caps and foam in the open ocean beyond.

The second painting extends this canvas to the right to the rocky shore line.
