This began as a stream of ideas painting but the first idea of the cigarette grabbed me right away and the rest of the painting evolved just from that starting point. The figure began – not meant to be anybody – but channels a burnt-out John Wayne in context. The soundtrack was discovered after the painting was complete and it fell into place nicely.

This artwork was first exhibited (not for sale) at the pre-launch event for VooGlue in March 2018.
