In this painting I explore the lighthouse at Cape Leeuwin. I like the symbolism of the lighthouse as a guide for safety for those at sea. There are many other “lighthouses” of life that serve as guides and these can help us through our difficult times.

This is done in my usual style of a breaking of the parts to dashes with more solidity in the main subject. The colours stream and move and I use the dashes to draw the viewer in and out of the painting.

I hope the viewer is able to reflect on the lighthouses of their lives and appreciate the assistance they have been to them. Perhaps we have been lighthouses for others.
